Comments, replies and formatting

Add a comment

Open an issue and show the comments sidebar. Write your comment, then press Enter or select the send arrow to send it. Use Shift + Enter to insert a line break instead.

Comments stay attached to the issue, giving future readers the discussion and decisions they need without searching another tool.

Reply in a thread

Open a comment thread to reply to a specific comment. Replies remain grouped beneath the original comment, while the issue sidebar shows how many replies the thread contains.

Use a thread for a focused question or decision. Start a new top-level comment when the subject is separate and should remain visible in the main discussion.

Attach files to comments and replies

Comments and replies support images, videos, documents and other files. Select the paperclip button (Add attachments) to choose one or more files, or drag files into the comments panel. Dropped files go to the active comment or reply editor, including when you are editing an existing comment.

Attachments appear below the comment text. You can send a comment or reply with attachments and no text.

Wait for uploads to finish before sending or saving. If an upload fails, use its retry button when available, or remove the failed attachment. A video may still be preparing for playback after its upload finishes; you can send it while that processing continues.

Comment and reply attachments use the same file-size limits and workspace storage allowance as attachments in descriptions and resolution notes. See Attachments for supported formats and limits.

View and download comment attachments

Select an attachment thumbnail beneath a comment or reply to open the attachment viewer. Images open at a larger size, videos have playback controls, and other files show their filename and a download action.

Use the previous and next buttons, or the left and right arrow keys, to browse that comment’s attachments. Choose Download from the attachment options menu to save a file. Close the viewer with its close button or Escape.

Attachments that are still processing cannot be opened until they are ready. If a video cannot be prepared for playback, it becomes a downloadable file.

Edit or delete your comment

Open the options menu on one of your comments or replies and choose Edit comment or Delete comment.

While editing, you can change the text, add files or remove existing attachments. Choose Save or press Enter to apply the changes. Cancel discards unsaved text and attachment changes.

Edited comments are marked as modified. Deleting a reply removes that reply and its attachments. Deleting a top-level comment also deletes all replies in its thread and their attachments. People already viewing the discussion may see a deleted-comment placeholder until they reload it.

Only the author of a comment or reply can edit or delete it or change its attachments. Comments and attachments on archived issues remain available to view and download, but cannot be changed.

Format descriptions, comments and resolution notes

The same editor is available for issue descriptions, comments and resolution notes. It supports:

• Headings.
• Bold, italic and strikethrough text.
• Bulleted and numbered lists.
• Inline code and code blocks.
• Links.
• Block quotes.

Select text to open the formatting controls. You can also type familiar Markdown patterns at the beginning of a line, such as - for a list.

Mention another issue

Type @ at the start of a text block or after a space to search for an issue. Choose a result to insert a compact issue mention.

Issue mentions can be used in descriptions, comments and resolution notes. Selecting the mention opens the referenced issue, which makes it useful when explaining related work without creating a formal blocking relationship.

Use a blocking relationship when one issue actually prevents another from progressing instead of just referencing it.
